Machado Lake Tour

Traci Minamide, Chief Operating Officer and Shahram Kharaghani, Watershed Protection Division Manager at the Wilmington Drain Waterway and Wildlife Area, delivers 65% of the runoff entering Machado Lake, and located between PCH and Lomita Blvd.    Shahram Kharaghani briefing Traci Minamide on the water quality issues in Wilmington Drain and Machado Lake. The yellow strip is a Trash Capturing System that prevents trash from entering Machado Lake.    Traci Minamide was briefed on Machado Lake Jet Streamer Pilot Study. From left to right: Wendy Dinh (WPD), Fred Dowell (R&P), Nasir Emami (WPD), and Traci Minamide.    Machado Lake (was home to Reggie the Alligator) is located in Ken Malloy Harbor Regional Park (KMHRP). The lake is impaired water body for nutrients trash and copper.    Jet Streamer- Pilot project is to evaluate water quality improvement in Machado Lake. This is a project that will test bacteria levels, dissolved oxygen and nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus over a 3 month period.
